You lived in a nunnery? Sounds like a story!
Yep!!! So I majored in fiber arts with a minor in environmental sciences and sustainability. As you might be able to guess, this is um. Not exactly a path with a whole lot of opportunities. And outside the classroom, it’s hard to get hands on experience doing both those things. But in the summer of 2020 after I graduated, I ended up stumbling on this place in Indiana run by nuns and attached to a convent. It’s called an eco-justice farm, and in addition to educating the public on closed-cycle systems of farming and donating most produce, they also have sheep and alpacas. Which is amazing because a lot of times sustainable farming doesn’t focus on livestock, especially fiber animals.
Anyways so it’s this farm on a convent and they’ll give you a monthly stipend and a bunch of education in this incredibly niche field year round. You don’t have to be catholic, I sure as fuck am not, it’s just that the folks who own and oversee the farm are nuns. So long story short for like 7 months I lived on a convent learning about closed-system farming in relation to fiber and dye and got a ton of hands on experience.
They were actually really nice and super chill with having a very atheist Jew working on their farm. I would talk with the older sisters that didn’t really get a chance to socialize outside the nunnery, and honestly I really enjoyed our conversations. As long as you do your best to bring peace and kindness to the world and people around you, the path you take to get there is irrelevant, and I honestly wasn’t expecting that kind of ideology from them, but I guess I was just working on my own experiences and notions about the religion in general. I still am atheist (I’m actually a member of the satanic temple but that’s a different thing) but in addition to my farm education, I interacted with a lot of beliefs and religions I hadn’t before and I think it was a genuinely great experience to have (the convent had like, monthly potlucks with one of the only mosques in the state and I met a bunch of folks. It was nice).

It was very pretty, one of the barn cats Cat Stevens would frequently break into my room to snuggle, alpacas are adorable and so fucking mean, and also zucchini bread is delicious.

Everyday I wake up and have a little giggle at the fact Ava put on Cronenberg for a first date in the 80’s AU. Like:
Ava: puts on the most off putting film available
Beatrice: I need this girl carnally
